The Strip
This is the Vegas of postcards: a few miles of enormous themed resorts along Las Vegas Boulevard, each one built to be a self-contained destination with its own casino, shows, restaurants and pools. Staying here puts you closest to the big shows, the biggest casinos and the skyline views, at the cost of longer walks between things and the highest room rates and resort fees in town.
Downtown / Fremont Street
A few miles north, downtown Las Vegas is older, smaller-scale and considerably grittier in a way plenty of repeat visitors specifically come back for. The Fremont Street Experience — a pedestrian corridor under a canopy of lights — is walkable in a way the Strip simply isn't, and room rates tend to run noticeably lower.
Off-Strip and Summerlin
Off-Strip and suburban areas like Summerlin trade proximity for value and quiet — a sensible choice if you're in town for a convention, visiting family, or simply prioritise a calmer base and don't mind rideshare or driving in for your nights out.
So which one?
First trip, here for the spectacle: the Strip. Repeat visitor, budget-conscious, or drawn to an older, weirder Vegas: downtown. Here for a conference, a wedding away from the noise, or a longer stay: consider off-Strip.
