What it is
The Neon Museum preserves signage retired from Vegas resorts and businesses going back decades, displayed outdoors in what's informally called 'the boneyard' — a genuinely different way to experience the city's design history than anything you'll see walking the modern Strip.
Why it's worth the trip downtown
Many of these signs represent resorts and businesses that no longer exist, making this one of the only places to see physical pieces of Vegas's mid-century identity firsthand rather than in a photograph. Guided tours explain the design history and context behind specific signs.
Timing your visit
Because it's an outdoor site in the desert, timing matters — early morning or evening visits (some evening tours use the signs' restored lighting) are considerably more comfortable than the middle of a hot afternoon.
