Start with the legal sequence, not the chapel package
Vegas makes marriage unusually convenient, but the legal sequence still matters: apply for the licence, both appear together with acceptable government photo ID, receive the licence, have a Nevada-authorised officiant perform the ceremony with a witness, then make sure the completed certificate is filed. I would sort those steps before comparing flowers, limos or themed packages.
Clark County says there is no blood test and no waiting period after the licence is issued. That is what makes a genuine same-day wedding possible; it does not mean you can skip the licence or treat a souvenir ceremony as legal.
Apply online, then both appear in person
Clark County lets couples submit the marriage-licence application online in advance, and the application stays in its system for one year. The names you enter should match the identification you will present. The online step saves form-filling time, but it does not replace the in-person visit.
Both parties normally need to appear together. The main Marriage License Bureau at 201 E. Clark Avenue is currently open seven days a week, 8 a.m. to midnight, including holidays. If your trip is short, I would collect the licence before the wedding day rather than build the entire schedule around a last-minute paperwork stop.
Know the current licence fee and ID rule
As of this review, Clark County lists the marriage-licence fee at $102. Credit or debit cards are accepted with an additional card fee, and checks are not accepted. Fees can change, so the county page is the final word when you travel.
Each person needs valid government-issued photo identification showing their current likeness. If divorce, widowhood, name history or a single-party exception could affect your situation, read the county's current requirements rather than relying on a chapel FAQ or an old blog post.
A chapel is optional; a legal officiant is not
The classic chapel is one route, not the legal requirement. You can choose a themed chapel, resort wedding, outdoor ceremony, private venue or the Clark County Office of Civil Marriages. What matters legally is that the ceremony is performed in Nevada by an officiant authorised to perform marriages there and that a witness is present.
The Office of Civil Marriages is separate from the Marriage License Bureau and works by appointment. If you want the simplest civil option, book that office deliberately rather than turning up at the licence counter expecting a ceremony.
Get every package fee in writing
Clark County specifically warns that solicitors outside the Marriage License Bureau work for commercial chapels, not for the Clerk's Office, and recommends insisting on a bill showing all fees and recommended tips before taking your vows. That is excellent Vegas advice generally: compare the total package, not the headline ceremony price.
Ask what the package includes for officiant, photography, digital files, flowers, transport, venue time, live-streaming, gratuities and certificate assistance. Optional extras are fine when you want them; surprises are the problem.
The ceremony is not the end of the paperwork
After the ceremony, the officiant is required to deliver the completed marriage certificate to the Clark County Clerk within ten calendar days for filing. The marriage licence itself is not proof of marriage. Once the certificate is filed, you can order proof of marriage from the Clerk.
If you need the record for immigration, a passport, a name change or recognition in another country, check the receiving authority's document requirements before the wedding. An apostille, certified certificate or other authentication can be a separate post-wedding task.
Build a low-stress Vegas wedding day
My practical order would be licence first, ceremony second, celebration third. Leave transport buffers, especially if the licence office, chapel, hotel and dinner are in different parts of the city. Do not schedule the legal paperwork between a flight arrival and a tightly timed ceremony.
If the wedding matters more than the Vegas spectacle, spend your money on the parts you will remember and verify the legal details directly. Elvis, neon and a pink Cadillac are optional; correct names on the licence are not.
